Incidentally...

by bloglikesit @ 23/04/2007 - 16:24:14

Has anyone noticed that although Google tend to change their image for pretty much any national or international "day" (Earth Day, Valentines, St. Paddy's, I could go on) they haven't done it for St. George's day. Not even google.co.uk.

St. George's Day...

by bloglikesit @ 23/04/2007 - 09:03:53

Heard someone on the telly this morning saying "all the other countries have their patron saint's day as a holiday".

No, they don't. St. David's day isn't a holiday.

So there.

(But I think it should be, along with today.)

Also heard a phone in thing where someone who works at a supermarket said they weren't allowed to do anything special for St. George's day, but they were made to go all out for American Independence day...

Wonder if it was Walmart...

Does anyone else think...

...that the Nissan advert where the car turns into all the animals (in a blatant attempt to cash in on the Transformers movie out this summer) looks a bit like an episode of Power Rangers? The carnimals look a bit like zords. Or whatever they're called.

My eyes...

by bloglikesit @ 22/04/2007 - 22:53:21

Having subjected myself to Wifeswap earlier, I am now watching the... oddity... that is David Gest.

What a nutter!

I don't think he knew what he was signing himself up for...

The programme is not showing him in a positive light.

(I'll do my last couple of daily confessions in a while, promise!)

Paddy's Twitter Adventures...

by bloglikesit @ 18/04/2007 - 10:16:44

Paddy is having some difficulty getting the Twitter from IM (you can do twitters from AIM, Gmail chat thingy and a few other ones). He cocked it up somehow and set up a whole new twitter account for each of his gmail accounts...

He added twitter to his AIM list, sent the word "Hello", which twittered, but his gmail accounts were set to receive his twitter notifications, and so he got his own message in his gmail account.

Bless him, he thought he was chatting to himself. He couldn't work it out and his brain exploded. Well, not really, but he was very confused. I'm still not sure he knows exactly what happened.

Twitter...

by bloglikesit @ 18/04/2007 - 09:18:16

I found a new thing. Not new really, but new to me. Twitter! It's a site where people just answer the question "What are you doing?" and it comes up on the twitter site, on an rss feed, you can tag it with a location and it comes up on a map, and thousands of people a minute do it.

I have a new buttony thing over there --->

You can do it by text too. I wonder if I'll be any better at twittering than I am at blogging... I've got it set to text me if I don't update it every 24 hours. And told it not to text me between midnight and 9am. Which is nice.

You can also have "followers" who receive messages on their phone or email or whatever when you update your twitter. I have two random followers already, no idea who they are, and I only signed up late last night. Scary. These people want to know what I'm doing...

Meme de filme...

by bloglikesit @ 16/04/2007 - 11:04:53

Look! Laziest blogger hasn't blogged for aaaaages! Gotta keep the fans happy. And now, rather than blogging something original, I have pilfered this meme. Read it and be enlightened.

There are far too many to note here… Pretty much anything that makes me laugh.

Deserves to be seen again...

by bloglikesit @ 03/04/2007 - 20:58:36

I know Paddy posted this t'other day, but it's so cool I want you all to look at it again! This is from Sunday night, when the farmers set fire to the mountain.

It was unbelievable, stood there in the midst of all the smoke and fire. Spectacular!

Can you tell I'm browsing Youtube this evening?!

These shoes cost $300...

by bloglikesit @ 03/04/2007 - 20:53:22

This is...odd. But it made me chuckle!

"What did you expect? Condamns?"

This is the post by the original creater, Liam Sullivan. Some buttmunch reposted it (actually lots of people reposted it) and one in particular has a gabillion views and is getting lots of credit for it. So watch the real one!

"Kelly" actually has an album out.

"Whore"

Sorta reminds me of Sam, Paddy! But in that case, it shoud be "handbags".

This might be...

by bloglikesit @ 03/04/2007 - 19:25:21

...the most succinct definition of the word "tragic" I've ever seen. Why oh why oh why (oh why) would you put this on the internet for the world to see?!

Whatever makes him happy I suppose...

For those who read Paddy's blog...

Huw seems a bit better. He is asleep, curled up with his brother. He's had a bit to eat and drink - not much, but some, at least.

Bless his little cotton socks. Wait a sec, those are my socks, thieving little... *mutter* *mutter*

PS...

Paddy cut my hair for me tonight.

Lookin' sheckshee!

And it burns, burns, burns...

by bloglikesit @ 02/04/2007 - 01:00:49

I know Paddy has already blogged this, but here's my piccies.

In case you don't know, occasionally farmers set light to the grass and gorse on moorland. I don't know the exact reason why, but I think it's something to do with getting new growth to sprout through, which is better for the animals to eat than the old stuff. I am pretty sure they aren't supposed to do it anymore, but it's what they've done for hundreds of years and they are not about to stop now just cos the government says so.

A couple of weeks ago, they were burning the grass on the mountains next to ours:

Smoke

Tonight, Paddy came running in to tell me they had started a fire on our mountain. So off we went with the camera! We went in the car so we could drive up the mountain to get a better view of it all.

This is what we saw as we came to the top of the hill at the top of our road:

First Proper View

We were stopped by a neighbour coming the other way, who told us they road was blocked by firemen further down because the fire had reached the roadside!

Haze

We stopped and crossed a stile onto the moor. I should say in case I haven't before, our road has a fence along one side, and the other side of that fence is the Brecon Beacons National Park! We are so lucky to live here. Anyway, so I crossed onto the moor:

Eerie

The smoke was unbelievable, and as I stood taking pictures, I could see the fire coming towards me so quickly it was scary. The flames were roaring, and I began to feel the heat. There was quite a bit of wind, which fanned the flames. It also made it difficult to hold the camera still! Every time there was a gust, the flames swept upwards into the air, and towards me.

Closeup

We beat a hasty retreat and drove down to the main road, past the fire engines. They had put out the fire by the road, but you could see where the fence was still burning in places.

Arc of Fire

An awsome sight. We then drove up the mountain, and looked down on the scene from above. It was scary to see how close to our house all that fire was. In this picture, our house is just out of frame on the right-hand side:

Too Close for Comfort

The fire is still going up on the moor, but it's nowhere near our road now. It was an amazing sight, though.
