Disturbing behaviour...

More "art".

Take a look at this video:

http://www.conceptlab.com/frog/aceart-frog1.mov

This time, some guy has stuffed electrical gubbins into a dead frog, suspended it in mineral oil and attatched it to a network so people can make it's legs kick.

Ew.

Inspired by Landers...

by bloglikesit @ 24/07/2007 - 19:44:43

Landers did a post about our village today, illustrated.

So when I got off the bus, I decided to illustrate my walk home!

Photies from my phone, so not brilliant, but you get the idea.

So I get off the bus on the main road through the village, and after a short walk, I turn down a little drive up to the big house my parents nearly bought years ago. Before I get to the house, a little path veers off to the right, and down into the valley. This is the path:

Image006

Those little gates are everywhere, they used to be painted yellow, but over the years it's worn away and left the red primer. I think they're designed to stop sheep and horses going through, but most of them don't even have fences either side any more.

So I go through the gate (or round it if I'm with my sister's kids!) and down some steep steps, that are really slippery when wet!

Image007

When I get to the bottom, theres a little track that goes to a house where a lady lives with a gabillion airedales. She was done by the RSPCA for not looking after them properly once, but she still has them.

Across the track, the path continues, but it's the other side of this gate:

Image008

See? No fences. In fact, the gate doesn't even open any more, so you have to go round it.

Next, I cross this bridge:

Image009

Quite nice, but a bit boring. It used to be really narrow, and the railings went further out the higher up they went, sort of like a V shape. I think it was the people in the house just on the other side who changed it, so they could get their horses across. Bit of a shame, really. When they did it, they moved all the rocks in the river below. I always used to play down there when I was small, and it feels strange to look at it now, after seeing it one way for all those years. The boulder on the right is the one I always used to sit on. It used to be in the middle of the stream.

Image010

So, across the bridge, past a house with a smelly stable and an annoying little jack russell, and then I get to another of those gates, with some steps going up the other side of the valley.

Image011

At the top of the steps, another gate! This one's really stiff, scrapes along the concrete path. The noise sets the annoying little jack russell off barking. The path on the other side has always been called (in our house, anyway) the yellow path, because the gate used to be painted yellow, as I said. I used to say to my nan, "I'm going down the yellow path", and she'd know I was going to the stream that way, instead of walking up the road - you can get to the same stream there.

Image012

The path isn't really all that steep, but it takes it out of you! I'm always out of breath when I reach the final gate before home.

Image013

And after I go through that gate, I'm pretty much home! Wasn't that exciting! The correct answer is yes.

One more picture for you. I took this by accident when I was trying to close the camera application on my phone, and I uploaded it by accident too. Seemed a shame to waste it, so here's my foot!

Amuseing...

by bloglikesit @ 23/07/2007 - 23:11:51

No, the title is not a typo, but a pun!

This about Muse, y'see.

Geddit?

Oh well. Never mind. I'll carry on regardless.

(Ooh! Beautiful South! No. One thing at a time.)

Soyunperdedor, my favourite online lesbian (not a difficult postion to fill, I don't know any other online lesbians) has admitted a certain leaning towards the lead singer of Muse, Matthew Bellamy.

As you may or may not know, I am a mahoosive No Doubt fan. And as you also may or may not know, the lead singer of No Doubt is Gwen Stefani, who is on my list of women I would "do".

A while ago, I found this:

They are one and the same! Amazing.

If you lower Britney Spears' tone* (as if she doesn't do it enough herself) she sounds like Rick Astley. True story.

* of course I mean "pitch", but that wouldn't be as funny.

Clicky-clicky into your blog and view the main page. Place your cursor in the left corner of the page and clicky-clicky the Next Blog.

In this blog that you have visited, leave one comment as follows - Have a great day. Click into four more blogs using the Next Blog icon and enter the comment as noted above to ensure that you have visited five blogs.

MEME Questions:

1. Did you clicky clicky into a blog you have seen before? If so, which one?

Nickerless - http://area-136.blog.co.uk/
Abi - http://doicare.blog.co.uk/

2. Were any of the Next Blogs in another language? If so, what language?

Nope.

3. Did you discover a blog that you would consider to be worthy of joining your friends’ list? If so, which one?

Some of em already were, but anyone can join my friends list if they ask properly and aren't just collecting friends.

I have to confess that I didn't wish one of the people a great day. The blog was not something I was remotely interested in and I didn't feel comfortable just saying "have a great day" because it would not fit with the tone of the post.

I tag Soyunperdedor, Abi, Chrisglos, Nickerless and um.... Helly!

So Asda my not be able to supply the new Harry Potter book this weekend. Oh dear! Glad I ordered from Amazon!

Bloomsbury say Asda haven't been paying their bills.

Asda say Bloomsbury are retaliating because their price is "so low" (being literally 1% less than most other online retailers).

I have to say I have no clue who is telling the truth. But Asda have been on the radio giving their side of the story, maybe that's a clue.

EDIT:

BBC story here.

Four slices and counting. I could quite easily eat some more, but I mustn't. Naughty.

Quick. Change the subject. I'm sure most of you are aware, but for those that aren't go and take a look HERE.

Paddy is doing a 24hr blogathon to raise money for a girl named Amy who has something called Cockaynes Syndrome. It's a rare disease and she has a rare strain. You can find out more HERE.

Go on, have a look. Sponsor him if you feel you can.

Think I might go and make some more toast...

Uh-oh...

We flick over to Channel 4 to watch BB, and what do we see but Liam in the buff doing naked nominations!

He's got a very big...

Well, he had a cuddly toy in front of his crotch, I couldn't see how big that was.

All the boys are at it!

Have you seen "Dirt" on Five US?

Courtney Cox's new thing, the one she and David Arquette are Executive Producers of.

Well, we are watching it. Courtney Cox has just blatantly got out a mini-vibrator and played with herself under the covers!

Again, ew!

She's at it again! Right at the end!

If the radio stopped playing it, maybe people would stop buying it.

It's not that I don't like the song. I'm just a bit fed up of it. I mean, come on, ten weeks. She'll be knocking Bryan Adams off his nice comfy record at this rate.

And I do wish she'd spell her name properly.

(Notice how I referred to the radio as if it were a sentient thing. That's called animism, that is. See, my 'A' level psychology wasn't wasted.)

Will anyone lend me some money...

by bloglikesit @ 16/07/2007 - 13:10:46

I would like to buy this, but I seem to be a bit short of the asking price.

You have to copy the rules and then say who you would like to play you in a sit com about your life BUT then say who you think would actually be cast in the role.

You can give reasons if it is not self explanatory. Then tag 5 other people please

I would like to be played by Justin Lee Collins...

...but I think it's more likely that I would be played by Alan Carr.

I have no idea who has been tagged already, but Soyunperdedor, angievoluti, idontknowwhy, chrisglos and jenky - I choose you!

This is a bit creepy...

by bloglikesit @ 09/07/2007 - 12:10:34

I just finished a book called "Next" by Michael Crichton - he of Jurassic Park and ER fame - and it was quite interesting. It was all about the ethical, legal and practical problems associated with genetic research and experimentation.

The story spanned quite a few people, and covered a wide variety of topics - from patenting genes to illegal experiments - but it was all sort of linked. It was filled out with snippets from news articles, and as I was reading it I just assumed they were made up.

But there's a bibliography in the back. Oh my god. Some of the articles are real! These things are happening!

Even the details of the main story - a guy whose cells are patented by a company, who then claim ownership of him, and by extension his descendents - are rooted in true events.

One of the articles was about "transgenic art" - transgenic meaning inserting the genes from one thing into another. There is an artist who has inserted human DNA into a cactus, and made it grow human hair.

How to make your child obese...

by bloglikesit @ 09/07/2007 - 11:52:38

I was in Solihull a few months back, and saw two kids, around 8 years old, being towed by their parents. Just gliding along. They were wearing a pair of these. Trainers with a wheel in the heel.

Surely there's supposed to be some effort involved. Like skating/rollerblading/whatever it's called these days.

Giving your child wheels only to pull them along by the arm can't be good, can it? You may as well put them in a pushchair!

Let's come together...

by bloglikesit @ 04/07/2007 - 22:43:54

Ok, genuine question for everyone.

This is an advert for European films. I think it was paid for with EU money. Do you think that this is a worthwhile and/or appropriate use of your taxes?

I'll post my thoughts later.

By the way, it's made up of clips of lots of European films, I think

Yellow update...

by bloglikesit @ 03/07/2007 - 11:16:45

It would appear there was a failing in the educational system of Birmingham in the early 80's and 90's. A quick poll of school friends I am still in touch with (only one of which has replied so far) revealed that they were under the same misapprehension I was.

I can understand that the teachers dumbed down the cyan/magenta thing when we were five, but you'd think someone would have put us right at some time during secondary school. An art teacher, perhaps?

*traumatised*

I was lied to...

by bloglikesit @ 03/07/2007 - 09:47:17

...and made to look a fool.

Yellow is not a primary colour. Or rather it is, but it's a subtractive primary colour.

When I was at primary (ha!) school, I was taught that the primary colours were red, blue and yellow. By mixing these three colours, I was told, you can make any colour in the rainbow. And it seemed to be true! Red and blue make purple, blue and yellow make green, yellow and red make orange.

Like this:

aguilon

So this morning, Radio 1, Rob DJ's pub quiz. The question comes up "what are the three primary colours?" and Paddy goes "Red, Green and Blue". I go, "naaaah, that's component colours, like on a telly."

I was wrong, and all because my teachers thought I was too stupid to understand the truth. Bastards. It turns out there are two sets of primary colours. There are additive ones - those that pertain to light, where combining them all leaves you with white - and subtractive ones - those pertaining to pigment, where combining them leaves you with black.

So as a child, playing with paints and crayons, I was using subtractive colours - pigments - and the actual subtractive primarys are cyan, magenta and yellow. In the absence of cyan and magenta paints/crayons, I was told to use blue and red. And the misconception that primary colours are red, yellow and blue was born.

Bastards.

The annoying thing is, I know all about RGB colours, I use them all the time on the computer, and I know about CMYK being used in printing too. It's just that nobody had ever told me that they were both sets of primary colours. Double bastards.

What sort of fictional character would you like to play in a film?
Tell us, give an example and explain why and tag five other bloggers to do the same.

Ok, in a film I would like to be the character who has special powers they don't know about and has to learn how to use properly just in time to beat the bad guys at the end. Maybe magic, that would be good. Like the guy in "The Magic Cottage" by James Herbert. I've actually just ruined the end of that book if you've never read it.
